Summertime And The Living Is Easy

Summer is here! The kids are out of school riding bikes, playing in the yard or at the park, swimming and tons of other outside activities. Houston summers are hot and pests like mosquitoes are prevalent. Make summertime easy and fun with these important tips to keep your kids safe from pests.

Keep the Safe from Mosquitoes
Mosquitoes carry all kinds of diseases, such as Zika, and mosquito bites can be very irritating. This summer be sure to apply mosquito repellent to children whenever they are outside. If they go swimming or enjoy a water activity be sure to reapply.

An important reminder for the parents and adults to help combat mosquitoes this season, be sure to remove any standing water around your home. Whether it’s a trash can lid after a rainy day, a tarp which has been weighed down with water, lingering puddles in the yard, or anywhere else holding water where they can reproduce.

In addition to the measures you and your family can take, you can also contact Natran for a yard fog. A yard fog from will keep your yard pest free for nearly a month!

Keep them Safe from Ticks
Like Mosquitoes ticks are very dangerous and can carry diseases as well, such as lyme disease. The good news is the tips outlined above for mosquitoes will take care of ticks too. You’re most common areas for ticks will be wooded areas, tall grass, weeds, and overgrown fields. However, do not let your guard down outside of said areas as it is not uncommon to find ticks in your back yards, at parks, and many other areas frequented by active children.

After participating in outdoor activities parents should check themselves and their children for ticks under the arms, inside the belly button, behind the knees, between the legs, around the waist and especially in the hair. If you find a tick, remove it using fine-tipped tweezers as soon as you notice it. If a tick is attached to your skin for less than 24 hours, your chance of getting Lyme disease is extremely small. But to be safe, watch for signs or symptoms of Lyme disease such as rash or fever, and see a doctor if they develop. Don’t forget about those furry members of the family either. Be sure to check your pets for ticks as well.

Keep them Safe from Wildlife
Summer is a great time to teach your kids the basics about wildlife. As they spend more time outside it’s important for them to know the risks of coming close to snakes, squirrels, rodents, opossums and skunks. Make them aware of the diseases they can carry and if they can bite or attack. Make sure they know that wildlife should be left alone and to contact an adult if one is found.
